Welcome to March! The first Thursdays of the month are all about Savoring Inspiration: sharing food writing, content, and recipes from creators that keep me inspired.
I was first introduced to Carolyn of Epicurious Expeditions through her “Fixing British Food” series. She held a plate of traditional beans on toast in front of the camera and said, “British food is so bad that only a Black Woman could fix it…” Then she threw the plate across the room. I was sold immediately.
Shortly after, I discovered her disability-friendly meal series. Carolyn’s mother was disabled and a caregiver for most of her life. So Carolyn grew up with a lot of exposure to medical professionals, nurses, and folks with varied disabilities fighting to protect their joy. Those experiences, coupled with her own neurodivergence and her determination to advocate for her autistic son’s independence, are the impetus for this series. Watch the video below to learn more about her perspective on making recipes accessible:

If you don’t already know, I've created a new schedule in an effort to make this newsletter a sustainable part of my writing practice. Here’s what to expect each week:
First Thursday
Savoring Inspiration: sharing food writing, content, and recipes from creators that keep me inspired.
Second Thursday
Ode to: Lyrical meditations (or unhinged babbling) about my current food and nutrition obsessions.
Third Thursday
Pen & Palate: Dining out, sharing my plates, and stretching the depth of my palate (aka cosplaying critic).
Fourth Thursday
Communion: Contemplative pieces about how life, healing, community, and growth intersect with food.
See you next Thursday! And if you try one of Carolyn’s recipes, comment to let me know how it goes.
woahh excited to get into her work, ty!
